How to make elderflower syrup
In Sweden, where Mikkel is from, it’s very usual to use elderflowers. In the US, though, elderflowers are not as commonly used as elderberries, so before meeting him, I’d never heard of using elderflowers for anything. Elderflowers are delicious, and the syrup has so many uses. It’s light and floral, with a beautiful sunny color.
Do elderflowers have the same health benefits as elderberries? I’m not a doctor, nor am I an herbalist. This is the only study I’ve found. I’ve read many herbalists say that the elderflower does have the same health benefits, but if this is important to you, do your research.
I can, however, tell you that it’s insanely delicious and so quick and easy to make. The actual hands on time for making elderflower syrup is about 10 minutes- you can do this! The only thing you might not have is something to strain it with. Cheesecloth is available in most home goods stores or on Amazon.
We use elderflower syrup for making elderflower soda, just by adding some sparkling water, but you can use it to make cocktails, infuse a cake, make elderflower lemonade- so many delicious choices.
