Early in March we registered as a farm with the USDA and spoke with the NRCS district officer about a conservation plan, irrigation, and certified organic status, which are all in varying levels of progress.
Mike used our chainsaw mill to mill lumber for our planned pergola. We built said pergola over the course of a week, from mostly our own timber from our property, then stained it and planted muscadines on the four corners
We planted potatoes, got our first batch of broiler chicks for the season, extended our grape arbor and planted another 10 muscadines there, and built a shelter for our laying chickens.
And, finally, we determined exactly where we wanted to expand our new garden, and placed at least a million t-posts. We are expanding from 1/4 acre to 3/4 acre, not including our fruit tree orchard.
April will bring: deer fencing for the new garden, planting lots of elderberries and asparagus, among other things, new layer chicks and a couple of goslings, and continuing to love and be so grateful and excited for this amazing opportunity we have.
